Blocking out of the general design.
I started with hand tools - you can see
the very choppy surface resulting from the large chisel I used
to blcok it out with.
|
Increasing the detail, still staying general
in case anything has to be moved or changed in a big way.
Now I start to use power tools - a large
grinder to scoop out big chunks - although this piece didn't
require all that much.
|
Getting deeper now that the parts have
pretty much decided where to go. See the long tube-shaped thing
on the far right?
That's my air hammer - essentailly a tube
with a piston that goes up and down inside, which makes the chisel
placed within it vibrate like a jack hammer.
|
Now the chisels and air tools have been
left behind in lieu of rasps, files and rifflers - little tiny
files that get the details.
Next is sand paper - no farther than 400
grit to avoid a too-shiney, non-skin-like surface.
